“Dad, look!” exclaimed Daniel tugging on his father’s shirt.
“Well, look at that! A shooting star!” said Daniel’s father in satisfaction. “Quickly, make a wish!” he said, and closed his eyes to make his wish.
Alas, Daniel didn’t make his wish, instead watched his father peculiarly as if he were some kind of interesting animal.
Daniel was startled when his father had suddenly opened his eyes. “What did you wish for dad?” Danny asked.
“For you to ace that spelling test you have at school tomorrow. What did you wish for?”
Daniel shook his head. “I’m happy right here and right now. I don’t want anything.”
“Is that so?” asked his father, “I bet I know what you actually want right now.”
“What is that?”
“I bet that you want a good night sleep, don’t you?”
Daniel yawned. “Yes, I do.”
Then Daniel’s father carried Daniel all the way home.
Star knew what to do.
She had to grant that man’s wish, for that was the law in her kingdom. To grant a mere human’s wish and you are not allowed to return to her kingdom until the wish was granted. That happened every ten years. Except that she wasn’t allowed. She was supposed to stay at her kingdom. After all, she was the princess of her kingdom.
She was surprised the man didn’t wish for money or fame. He just wished for his son to ace some stupid test.
Oh well, she thought, a wish is a wish. She disguised herself as a cat, and followed the man carrying his son.
But then, the man went inside a building, and she knew it was rude to enter someone else’s property without they’re permission, but she wanted to go home, and take a good night’s sleep herself. Plus, her father might catch her in the human world, and who knew what kind of trouble she’d get into?
So, she changed herself into a moth, and flew through the open window of the boy’s room.
Star landed on the boy’s cheek, and used some magic she owned to make the boy know all his words for his spelling test the next day.
She saw that there were only 5 words,
Father, Mother, Teacher, Friends, and finally the last word, Star.
Star was glad that her name was on that boy’s test, she felt special.
She hesitated when she felt the boy waking up, and then quickly flew out the window before the boy had a chance to even open his eyes to see what happened..
Star knew the way home, and fortunately, her father hadn’t noticed that Star was gone. She was still a delicate moth, and she passed threw the snoring guards of her castle, and then changed herself back into her regular self.
She looked back at the snoring guards as she tiptoed across the castle hall, then felt herself bump into someone.
It was her father.
“Princess!” her father said in a surprised tone, “Isn’t it time you were in bed?”
"Yes father." she whispered gently, and walked away to her room.
That night, Star cried herself to sleep. Her father never called her by her real name. Who cared if her name was on a human boy’s test?
All that did not matter for her, for her father only called her princess, and sometimes, she had the thought that she did not want to be a princess.
